Thanks for pounding that one out Josh. I'm pretty confident you were channeling a whole lot of other people feeling and thinking the same thing. I've been abstaining from media for a few weeks, but even being exposed to rnz-lite has me rage muting and the stench of it still managesto permeate. Wtaf is going on at the moment???? We seem to be entering the shit media epoch and it feels like we are yet to peak. Much like the ice ages, I know there are small pockets of healthy media ecosystems surviving, but it's pretty brutal and fuckn ugly out there in the big wide world. Asteroid anyone? Please forgive my overabundance of cliche and metaphors 🙄
It feels like we are in the dark ages. Suspicion of teachers, doctors, scientists, reducing funding to universities.
I can't bear it. How upside down is it to ridicule learned people, fact based critical argument? What other cultures have persecuted intellectuals? This goes against my solid, enquiring 1970s New Zealand state school education.
Also, the same journos who drum up these neg stories about women in these roles will also fill column inches in despair at the next local body election asking WhErE’s ThE dIvErSiTy?!
Not many sensible folx want to be elected members because a) the job is a bit shit and b) political journos are Cs.
And the horrifying assertion that "Guests at the Embassy cinema celebrated with wine and local beers" is given its own special paragraph, just to ensure that Whanau's recently alleged booziness is not overlooked.
Thank you Josh. I just felt the buzz if seeing you had posted today. I am going to become a paid subscriber. How ya going? Good I hope with all the subscribers who love you :)
Hi Josh. Do you have 2 newsletter substacks. I seem to have paid foe the Cynics Guide and the bad newsletter. £55 and £80. (I am in Scotland.) Can you clarify at all? Others may have the same issue with the 2 substack titles??
I do have two newsletters, but I haven’t run into this issue before. No worries though - I just refunded you for the Cynic’s Guide subscription. I don’t expect anyone to pay both!
Thanks Josh. I just see your name which is your 'brand' for me
It never occurred to me there were 2. And then I didn't know which was which. Thank you very much for refunding one. Is there a difference in slant or topic in them?
Why 2?
Perhaps people would upgrade if there was some clarity there. Or have I completely missed a point?
I have two newsletters because they’re wildly different in content, tone, and audience. One is mainly about media and climate change. The other is about how many pull-ups I can’t do.
Hi again Josh. I sorted out my subscription issues. Substack turned out to be very easy to navigate. I feel much better reading your work now you are being paid something for it.

All the best.
